PLRA Annual General Meeting
Sunday July 5th, 2009
INTRODUCTION
Jim Richert welcomed everyone and introduced the executive - Graham Warren, Brian Edey, Susan Russel, Jack Russel, Ken Loney and Gary Portway.
NEW PRESIDENT
Ken Loney has resigned as president, but will remain on the executive as Past President. Jack Russel was nominated by Harry Winder as the new president. This nomination was seconded by Dennis Woodbridge and passed unanimously.
MURRAY FEARREY
Jack Russel introduced Murray Fearrey – the Reeve of Dysart et al. Murray indicated that the development of PercyLake by Grief Bros. is progressing well and all requests made by the municipal council and the PLRA have been listened to and incorporated into the development plans. Plots of land will likely be up for sale within the next year.
Landfill area has been obtained in WestBay and the roads on PercyLake will likely be worked on next year.
Our lake plan has been held up from being passed by council by FOCA who have just issued a Lake Plan Tool Kit for review by lake associations. Murray Fearrey has suggested that after reviewing this tool kit our association may want to make some changes to the lake plan.
During a question and answer period - it was mentioned that posted 911 address #s are coming off. Murray suggested that a phone call to the county is all that is needed to replace these #’s.
When and where on the lake will development start? Murray said he will find out. The sand spit and other park lands on the lake will go to the municipality.
Who owns the islands? Murray and Jim Richert are going to look into this matter.
TREASURER’S REPORT
Graham Warren reported that there are 36 paid members of PLRA. He would like to see more members. Our expenses include: website hosting, FOCA membership, and the lake plan. The balance remains at a little over 2,000. with a 2,000. reserve for special projects.
BUSINESS
Hi speed internet -to start up in October.
CHA Coalition of Haliburton Association – Organization of area lake committees. CHA is mainly concerned with a sharing of information among lake associations.
An executive has been formed and PercyLake remains a member of this
organization.
Q AND A
Water pump? Privately owned now.
Concern among cottagers about lake levels – how do we know when to take docks out? The executive will look into these questions and follow up on what has happened concerning the Trent-Severn Waterway Study and it’s recommendations to the ministry.
The boat ramp webbing has worn away and needs to be replaced. The executive will need to look into this matter.
Are new property owners welcomed and do they get the newsletter? The executive will look into this matter as well. Every property owner does get a newsletter.
FISHING DERBY
This past year the derby was won by Alex Maxseiner with a 5 ½ lb. bass at 20 “long. Alex’s grandparents accepted the trophy on his behalf and told the marvelous story of Alex and the Big Fish.
REPTILES AT RISK
This was a wonderful program of snakes and turtles – Mrs. Bee and Baby among them. Robin and Eric slayed our myths about reptiles and delighted us with the live animals and their informative and entertaining presentation.
